History

History

The Health Diplomacy Society was established as a civil platform that connects Türkiye’s health capacity with the global health agenda and institutionalises multi-stakeholder collaboration. The establishment process was shaped by analyses and assessments conducted by the founding members at national and international levels, with the aim of addressing emerging needs and gaps in the field of health diplomacy as a component of public diplomacy.

The Association was officially registered on 20 February 2018 by the Governorship of Ankara under registry number 06-130-192.

Institutional Development Approach and Milestones

Since its establishment, the Association has structured its work across the following areas to strengthen the impact of health diplomacy “at the table and in the field”:

  • Institutionalisation and governance: The Association’s institutional identity, thematic priorities and partnership approach have been clarified; regular reporting mechanisms have been strengthened to support transparency and institutional memory.
  • Knowledge production and dissemination: Knowledge exchange and experience-sharing in health diplomacy have been institutionalised through curated content and document sharing.
  • Events and communities of practice: Through convening activities (with a distinction between past and upcoming events), the Association has aimed to enhance networking and collective intelligence among stakeholders.
  • International relations and partnerships: A framework has been developed to strengthen the ground for international cooperation, including institutional partnership and agreement models under an “international relations” umbrella.

Today, the Association continues to contribute to the development of measurable-impact health diplomacy models—through knowledge exchange, capacity building, institutional partnerships and approaches aligned with global health governance—in a manner consistent with Türkiye’s humanitarian and entrepreneurial approach.
